Objective

This learning program is designed to fit with contractor management systems by providing knowledge and experience associated with management of typical radiation contractors such as borehole loggers, non-destructive testers, road construction etc. The course deals with the management of contractors via equipment inspections and personal interactions such as field leadership or behavioural observation activities.

The learning program is practical in nature - participants will be involved in a number of small group workshops and discussions centred on concepts and problems useful to those managing radiation subcontractors. Topics include:

  • Critically reviewing a radiation safety plan
  • Interactions of radiation with matter
  • Detection and measurement of radiation
  • The radiation management systems associated with contractors using generic radiation gauges, neutron soil moisture/density gauges, borehole logging, industrial radiography, x-ray analysis equipment, etc
  • Transport and storage of radioactive materials
  • Radioactive source security
  • Complying with State and Federal legislative requirements
  • Complying with Queensland Radiation Safety Standards and Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) guidelines.

Assessment for the course is mentored and includes a variety of operational contractor management tasks (as specified in the site contractor management processes) in the workplace.
